In June, the CD-Laboratory successfully passed its first evaluation, in the course of which also a proposal for an extension with AVL List GmbH as a new industrial partner was accepted. AVL is an enterprise with 10,000 employees operating worldwide on the development of powertrain systems, test and instrumentation systems as well as simulation technologies.
AVL will co-fund two new PhD positions which will complement the ongoing research regarding two aspects. First, it will be explored, how a (sustainability-related) digital product declaration for an automotive traction battery could be designed and how the obtained information could be used for a dynamic sustainability assessment and for related decision-support (e.g., regarding the selection of the most suited second-life option). Second, a methodology will be developed that can be used for assessing and optimizing alternative heavy-duty powertrain configurations regarding their application in different use scenarios from an integrated ecological and economic perspective.
The two new PhD-positions will be filled as of mid-September.
